This quote from Henry Ford perfectly illustrates the strategic importance of public affairs and reputation in modern business management. The complexity of today’s economic market makes it very difficult to believe that a company’s economic activity is limited solely to controlling its production or service chain and marketing its products or services. A company must also be able to control its external environment, which has an increasingly strong influence on its activities. The more complicated the external environment becomes, the more it has a direct impact on a company’s activities, and the more ‘public affairs’ plays a crucial role in its strategic approach.
Although the prevailing view of public affairs emphasizes its responsibility for government relations and political lobbying, the increasingly strategic importance of the voice of the consumer or customer and of public opinion give reputation management a very special place in the strategic affairs of a company. Today, even more than in the past, managing a company’s public affairs and reputation is of equal, if not greater, strategic importance than managing its products and services. It is no secret that in our business environment, almost all multinationals have a dedicated function or at least a proven public affairs management policy.

Leadership Profile
Don Dussey is a business leader with a unique combination of public affairs, strategic management, corporate communications and government and public relations experience with Fortune 500 enterprises.

He has more than 20 years corporate career experience in positions of increasing responsibility. He is a recognized professional in public affairs, marketing-communication and sustainability. All through his career, Don played prominent roles on the regional management board of prime FMCG companies across sub-Sahara Africa. Don has played active membership and leadership roles in industry, business coalitions and multisector platforms in several countries, including Nigeria, Rwanda and Ghana as well as in Côte d’Ivoire, where he served as Vice President of the American Chamber of Commerce.

In 2020, Don founded Premium Partners, a B2B company with the ambition to become the benchmark in the field of business promotion and support. The company is based in Abidjan, Ivory Coast with operations across West Africa.

Don Dussey holds a Global Executive Master in Management (GEMM) from HEC Paris, a pre-PhD degree in sustainability development law and politics from the universities of Maastricht, Liege, Lome and Benin as well as a Master’s degree in Regulatory Laws from the Cheick Anta Diop University, Senegal.
